Lydia Dambassina
I am not going to situate my work in a historical context, especially since that is not my domain.
It is very probable that my work has already “been formulated, even several times, however, I am more interested in discussing its true than if is new or not”.1
History is a circle and there is nothing which has not already been which will not be again one day”.2
“But the most unusual specular hoax is probably in “Pierre Menard, author of Quixote”, the story of a writer “who did not want to compose another Quixote – which is easy – but The Quixote”. This writer invented by Borges did not set to copy Don Quixote”, but “his admirable ambition was to reproduce a few pages which would coincide – word by word and line by line – with those of του Miguel de Cervantès”. 3
“There is no internationally known writer who has not forged a symbol”4 – this is true for all creators – and if “the work harbours something magical, I consider it successful”.5
“ I have always been attracted to the magical, the wonderful, the unreal”.6
I would have liked to have a gigantic work behind myself but I often think that “I put too much art into my life – too much energy – and as a result, I don’t have much left to give to art”.7
“Today it is raining. These days are for the winter. These days are not for you. Don’t panic about your work. It will always get done, even late”.8

notes biographiques

biographical notes
“At first dissipated in the gaze of diploma – holding mammals, Lydia Dambassina was born from the encounter of the hair of a marten and the pupil silenced by the surprise of one tit born from her gesture.
Lydia started to paint in order to see. Tireless, like a small family factory, she produces millions of glances one by one, eye per eye, tooth by tooth. Sometimes her eyes became bigger, swelled and filled with tears. They seemed like the mobile eyes of a color-eating chameleon. Art is no longer a question of surface. Because she painted without respite, Lydia ended up understanding. To surface, she said to herself. I have to surface again and again in order not to drown in the gigantic blue asleep in the depths of the canvases. At that time, I heard the noise of a small saw resonating in the distance. Lydia had finally decided to cross the line. To drill herself a passage into the other dimension accompanied by much penetration.
Time spreads out very perpendicularly to the surface. Digging out a hole is no longer enough. That’s what gave rise to the spiral. It’s stupid like a cabbage the spiral. It’s the machine to go back and forth in time.

Technique:
Place the moving spire on the sensitive surface, sit down in front of it. Wait patiently. That’s when the birds of the past fly away. The noise of a stone, one of those translucent stones we throw to the bottom of the well of memory to finally hear the distant unique limpid obscure noise of lost time”.9
And “Salomon said. There is no new thing upon earth. So that as Plato had an imagination that all knowledge was but remembrance; so Salomon gives his sentence, that all novelty is but oblivion”. 10
